SOTN PRESIDENTS REPORT

SOTN News for June 2009

I trust all members are enjoying the services and facilities Seniors OntheNet is offering. We are experiencing good attendance at our one-on-one sessions – particularly with lap-top users. Don’t let the occasional chilly or windy mornings at this time of the year dampen your enthusiasm.

Volunteers’ Morning Tea: We have some 60 members who volunteer in many capacities – tutors, administration, reception, technical support and so on – to make Seniors OntheNet the success that it is. To thank them, and to offer a small reward to our faithful volunteers, we have invited them all to another special High Tea at the Marriot Hotel on July 17 that was such a success in 2008. Remember, if you want to join them next year, you can become a member of this elite band by offering your services as a volunteer.

Paradise Point Area Meetings: Our long-serving area manager, Hazel Barrett, has expressed her desire to retire from this position. We are seeking a volunteer to take over this role from Hazel. There is one meeting a month. Would you, or anyone you know, be willing to take on this important position? Glenys would love to hear from you.

Call For New Members:   You may have noticed our newspaper advertisements and our Open Day held last month. We have had good success attracting new members. Membership now stands at about 960. If you have friends who are interested in joining Senior OntheNet, please invite them along. Remember also that this month is the time to consider renewing you membership for the next financial year.

Group Lessons: We conduct group lessons in such topics as Digital Photography, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Excel. Watch out for the announcements. We are offering a new course in “Computer Basics” commencing June 4 – do you want to know a bit more about what really happens in your computer? If you have any recommendations for group lessons, or if you are willing and able to conduct any courses or lessons, please let Glenys know.

In conclusion, as always, we wish you happy and enriching computing. If you have any queries or problems contact our ever efficient Office Manager, Glenys (sotnadmin@futureweb.com.au ), or if you wish, me (ted.wilkes@optusnet.com.au ).
